Just added three new links: CCalm Down, Relax. CCalm Down, Relax is "A weblog on netlabels, independent record labels and artists, Creative Commons".
The second is a link to a "List of projects using Creative Commons licenses". This is a list of CC-licensed projects in several media like journalism, cartography, movies, news, music, ... It's a wiki, so you can add your own contribution.
The last link is a blog about netlabels: XpRm.NeT "a company of enthusiasts, who likes a wide range of electronic experimental music, from experimental techno to noise, idm and hardcore." All CC licensed.

netlabelism.net is very proud that it is invited by indymedia.be to do a showcase at their "Citizens' Media day" (Dutch). There will be an introduction to a new book about popular media, and this will be discussed by several journalists and experts. Our team will fill the holes between and after the spoken word with some loungy Creative Commons music.

troubles @ IA

Last three months everybody experienced problems when one tried to visit the webpages and tried to down/upload stuff, and there were also issues with the counter. You can read more about the troubles and the solution here, also expect these problems to last till half february:

"1) we've been switching to a "should be faster" http backend server on some of our machines. that's making updating download counts a bit trickier until we finish (soon!) the parsing code.

2) we had a lot of server upgrades we had to do unscheduled, right around thanksgiving.

3) we are upgrading our "fleet" of servers to a new OS. that has caused some stability issues as we've had to sort out some issues only seen under heavy load.

4) we've *massively* upp-ed our bandwidth. so suddenly some servers are serving out "hot" items so fast they are swamping servers temporarily until we can get to it. this plus the faster http server in 40 of our most recent nodes mean some items are ruining the fun for the rest for periods of time.

5) holidays -- we are shortstaffed. it's a holiday weekend and i'm writing this from boston! (nuff said ;-) "

Wel, wel, het was weer een helse week, maar eentje om tevreden op terug te kijken. Woensdag was er het debat Sabam vs. Creative Commons. De opkomst was verrassend groot (60 man), de organisatie vlot, en er werd op een zeer beschaafde manier gedebatteerd, geen stellingenoorlog dus - wat velen hadden verwacht - maar een debat met een positieve boodschap. Hopelijk volgt er nog een kort verslag hier.
Donderdag heb ik de innemende, begeesterde, vriendelijke Marco Raaphorst nog een kleine rondleiding gegeven in Leuven, en Jan Lagrain heeft de man nog eens een mikrofoon onder z'n neus gestoken voor een kort auditief verslagje dat een van dees ook zal volgen in Netwaves.
Ik wil iedereen nog eens bedanken voor de positieve bijdrage in een van de zeldzame debatten die er in Vlaanderen zijn geweest: Marco Raaphorst, Akwalek, Jasper Verdin, Dirk Vervenne en tenslotte Jan Lagrain die voor de eerste keer een dabat modereerde, en dat op een treffelijke manier heeft gedaan (da's hard werken, hoor!). Ook Animo bedankt voor de goede ontvangst en organisatie. Ah, en de muziek na het debat (tijdens het gratis vat) was ook goed, werd door verscheidene personen opgemerkt ...

Marco ga ik nog eens ontmoeten op een auteursrechtendebat, georganiseerd door het Masereelfonds op zaterdag 15 dec. "Studiedag auteursrechten" (zie onderaan).

Donderdagavond was er dan nog de Scorpiofuif, waar wat te weinig Scorpio-volk rondliep :-( allee, naar m'n goesting toch ...
En zaterdagavond was er nog de eerste avondlijke platenbeurs, georganiseerd door de Poekke (Les musiques dépassées). De conclusie was dat de beurs zeker voor herhaling vatbaar is, door de meevallende opkomst en verkoop, en de leuke formule ('s avonds in een kaffee, gevolgd door een fuif).

Just added Netlabels Revue to the links>blogs>netlabels section. It's a french website of reviews of netlabel releases: Chroniques d'albums sous licence "creative commons". They also use the tag "musique enfants", children's music ... sweet! Santé!

I just added (in the right sidebar, under the top 10 topbits) the very handsome 'open music search' box, made by David Holmes with a little help from Google Co-op.
With this box you can find Copyleft, Creative Commons, Open Source, and Public Domain media, software, news and services. To see if it fits your needs, put as an example 'bswc' in the box, and click 'search'.
You can also put this search box to your website for finding legal, free and podsafe music resources. Grab the code here.

De rubrieken "literature" en "about" zijn aangevuld met een beschouwend artikel over CC en netlabels: "Creative Commons: wat Veto en Scorpio verbindt: Gratis verkoopt goed", geschreven door Toon Van Hal van onze eigenste Netwaves en geredigeerd door Robby Vangeel van het studentenweekblad Veto. Gebruik dit artikel gerust voor je eigen tijdschrift, website, eindwerk, behangpapier, ... maar vermeld wel de auteurs en de licentie 'Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License'.

new IA counter

The IA offers a new counter: in short, it not only counts the downloads from their pages, but also from the links outside their domain. It indeed gives a more realistic image of the downloads. Eg. while our latest Netwaves show about Emil Klotzsch would end in the 20-some downloads after 1 week, it now has been downloaded already more then 70 times, wow! And the older Netwaves download numbers also start to move again ... And everybody is happy :-)

Creative Commons is ontstaan naar analogie met de Gnu-licentie in de computerwereld. Netlabels zijn ontstaan uit de eerste uitwisselingen van muziek via internet bij computergamers. Vandaag brengt het belangrijkste computerwebzine in België ZDNet.be ode aan de netlabels. En waar zit dat muziekvolk, begot?

new feature on netlabelism

My webmaster Discofreq has created a very neat feature: from now on you can search by style in my database of approx. 9000 netlabelsongs (and growing every day). Just try the link on the left in the topbits section, or click this link. Another change we made is the filtering in the top 100: to make it more dynamic, we changed the lifecycle of the songs from eternal to 6 months, meaning that after 6 months you have a completely renewed top 100. For an eternal top 100, please consult yourself ;-)

I did some changes to my website, as you can see ;-)
The most important change is the live blogroll in the right block: these are 4 collections of the - imo - most important blogs about netlabels and Creative Commons. Feel free to contact me if you're thinking a blog is missing ... (i know there are a lot of important spanish written blogs, but my lack of spanish prohibits me to embed them). I hope these collections are very usefull and no overkill.

Na bijna 1 jaar netlabelism gaan we onze website even verfrissen. Ze gaat meer interaktief (commentaren) en dynamisch (blogs) zijn.
Het doel blijft nog steeds hetzelfde: netlabels promoten en ondersteunen.
Er zijn 2 soorten blogs: eentje in het engels, met enkel netlabel nieuws, en eentje in het nederlands met informatie over Creative Commons, en vooral in België (Vlaanderen).
We hopen dat jullie aktief mee zullen bloggen, diskussiëren, suggesties doen, netlabels aanbrengen, ...

Ah! en vergeet ook niet te luisteren naar ons wekelijks radioprogramma 'netwaves' (zie box rechtsboven) op de oudste onafhankelijke zender in België, radio Scorpio.

After a year of netlabelism, we thought it was time to change our website a bit. It's now more interactive (comments) and dynamic (blogs).
The goal stays the same: serving and promoting netlabels.
There are 2 different blogs: one in english, that will comment the netlabel music scene, and one in dutch, that will inform about Creative Commons in Belgium (Flanders).
We hope you will enjoy the discussions, suggestions, favorite netlabels ...

Ah! and also listen to our weekly radio program 'netwaves' (see box upper right), hosted by the oldest independent radio in Belgium, radio Scorpio.
